Vancouver International Black Film Festival (VIBFF)
Description
Fabienne Colas Foundation
The Vancouver International Black Film Festival (VIBFF) is dedicated to giving unique voices in cinema the opportunity to present audiences with new ways of looking at the world.
The ambition is to encourage the development of the independent film industry and to promote more films on the reality of Black people from around the Globe.
My role
The Vancouver International Black Film Festival is part of the network of festivals run by the Fabienne Colas Foundation on Canada’s west coast. As the foundation’s web administrator in 2025, and since then as an independent consultant, I have been responsible for the festival’s WordPress website.
A festival website has a particular rhythm: it stays quiet for months, then has to absorb a sharp rise in visits when the lineup, schedule and ticketing information go online. Preparing the site for those peaks is a large part of the work.
What I delivered
- WordPress development and maintenance of the VIBFF website
- Publication of film selections, festival schedule and submission information
- Search engine optimization for festival-related searches in Vancouver and British Columbia
- Security, backups and performance checks before and during the festival
Because VIBFF shares its foundations with the foundation’s other festival sites, improvements made on one site can be applied across the network.
